Tow truck!

Yep, that is our motorhome on the back of the tow truck! No need to beĀ  concerned though, as it was just going in for battery replacements as described in First Trip at the Bunya Mountains!

After our hassle of being stuck on the side of the road, while I discovered that the batteries were exploding, not to mention going the weekend without a fridge, Apollo/Talvor agreed to replace all the batteries. They decided to play it safe and tow the motorhome in for checks, in case the battery faults were caused by problems with the alternator or regulator.

In the end it all turned out OK – it was just the batteries. It is now sporting two new calcium batteries under the drivers seat (which power the Transit), and a new larger battery to power the motorhome (unknown brand/size unfortunately, but should be at least 100Ahr). She drove home under her own power!

Interesting only one of the batteries under the drivers seat is for starting the vehicle. Ford puts the other there so that lights and 12 appliances can be used without draining the starter battery (in all/most Transits – even if not a motorhome). I’ll need to look into this further, to understand when and how all 3 batteries get charged. Such details will be helpful to best know how to hook up solar panels.

With all the rain we’ve had this week, it was also a good test of how it performs in wet weather. Driving is fine, and wipers work great on brand new windscreens! One of the things I had Talvor do when buying it was replace the window over the dinette, as some of the louvers were very loose and rattled. However it looks like they didn’t seal it up properly – water is entering around this window. Arrrgh! It should be an easy fix, so think I’ll just do this one myself instead of giving them a second go!!

Credit to Apollo/Talvor for replacing the batteries – they are obviously keen for things to go well even if they don’t always get the execution right….
