Still Smiling!

Well the moon is still smiling down on us, and I got a photo this time!

Moon smiling at us

We must be starting to relax – slept in late and didn’t even make Rocky! But that is fine – we are in no rush. The boys were wanting to go snorkelling on the reef TODAY, but we didn’t make it, lol. After looking at the map they now have a better understanding of the distances and timeframes involved!

Don’t know why, but Diesel is always cheaper up around Gympie. We pulled into the large Matilda station just prior to Gympie, and it was there that I found another little annoyance with the motorhome that I should have picked up during a earlier trip. I was unable to check the tyre pressure of the rear left inner tyre (our motorhome has dual wheels on the rear) due to it have a standard short valve stem. I could only kinda get my hand in there between the wheels, but couldn’t get the cap off. Thought I’d have to buy a valve extension from an auto shop, but fitting was going to be a pain (possibly take outer wheel off).

A big thumbs up to TyreRight on the north side of Gympie – we pulled in there and the bloke had a look, then installed a valve extension for us quickly and easily (had a tool to help). To cap it off (haha) he didn’t even charge for the privilege on lying in the dirt to do it….!

Thumbs up to Tyre Right at Gympie

Tyre Right Gympie – Thumbs up!

We followed the main hwy, bypassing Bundy (as well as Maryborough, Gladstone etc). To make up we had a cold Bundaberg Rum, uh sorry, I mean Bundaberg Ginger Beer, during our lunch stop at Gin Gin.

Our resting spot for tonight is a free camping (max 48 hrs stay) area on the Calliope River, about 110km short of Rocky. Quite a nice spot, and we are a fair distance from the hwy so no noise issues. It’s pretty full (about 50 caravans/motorhomes), but spread over a large area and everyone is quiet.

There is HEAPS of roadworks all the way up! Slow down, speed up, slow down, stop and wait, speed up…. repeat 50 times…..

My favourite place for the day? Childers. We didn’t even stop there, but it was a nice bustling little country town. Surrounded by good quality red dirt farming land, it seemed like a spot of green oasis.

Thinking we might stop around Mackay, or perhaps the Whitsundays, for a little. Any suggestions? Want to take the boys snorkelling at the reef. We’ve got to head west within the next 1-2 weeks, and I’d like to go through Longreach. We never intended to go right up the QLD coast, and if we go a lot further we’ll be retracing our steps pretty soon.

Don’t worry, I won’t be posting every day! Though I’ve still got a few posts to catch up on (ones I’ve been meaning to do for a while)….
